Cupboards fit for a Pharaoh

Big cupboard

The Egyptians based an entire civilisation and culture on cupboards, as this early painting shows.
Notice how an Egyptian's social position is reflected in the size of his cupboard.
See the size and luxurious quality of the cupboard belonging to the middle management executive compared with that of a humble peasant, whose tiny, rough-hewn cupboard is barely large enough for a pair of shoes.

Only one left
Such was the Egyptians' love of cupboards that they were even buried in them.
When a Pharaoh died his body was placed in an enormous Toblerone shaped cupboard in the desert.
Few remain today, most having been stolen by thieves and archaeologists.

At Giza only one genuine cupboard is left,
the others having been replaced with cheap brick "pyramids"
by the Egyptian Tourist Board.
